Five Cards One Post using SSS July Card Kit!

Happy Thursday!  I have several cards to share today.  I was out of town for about a week, but when I got home I had some stamping supplies waiting.  I finally ordered the Simon Says Stamp card kit.  I have never had a card kit before so I decided to jump right in and see what I could create!

Card 1- This card has no stamping on it.  I combined pattern papers, puffy stickers, and even die cut a sentiment from one of the pattern papers included in the kit.  I used kraft card stock from my stash for the base to mimic sand.  I also used a piece of scrap red card stock from my scrap bin to die cut the red circle frame.  I finished with some clear sequins from my stash as well.  I am playing along with The Paper Players Sketch Challenge.

Card 2-  I used a piece of the island blue card stock included in the kit.  I stamped the fish image repeatedly on the card base using versamark.  I added the layered pattern papers.  I stamped the sentiment and white embossed.  I did the same for the fish.  I sponged some broken china distressed inks onto the sentiment for added definition.  I colored inside the fish with copic markers and wink of stella to make the fish pop a bit.  I added some shade of blues sequins from my stash to finish. I am playing along with The Fusion Challenge.  The colors in the inspiration photo.

Card 3- I created a background with the smooshing technique.  I used distressed oxide inks in peeled paint, candied apple, and broken china.  I let it dry.  I stamped in versafine onyx black the watermelon slices from the stamp set "One Cool Pineapple" and clear embossed onto strathmore watercolor paper.  I colored with my Arteza Watercolor Real Brush Markers.  I added a few white accents with a white gel pen.  I cut the slices out.  I stamped the sentiment with versafine onyx black and clear embossed and added my watermelon slices.  I used one of the scored 120# prefolded cards that come in the kit along with a  strip of the Green Leaf card stock.  I finished with some clear sequins from my stash. I am playing along with Freshly Made Sketches for this card.

Card 4-  I used the Doll Pink card stock for the base.  I combined some pattern papers.  I die cut the flamingo from the doll pink card stock three times and glued together.  I used inks from my stash to create an ombre effect for the sentiment.  I sponged the edges of the flamingo with some dark pink ink from my stash for added definition.  I added wink of stella all over the sentiment as well as the flamingo for added shine.  I finished this card with clear sequins from my stash.  I am also playing along with Simon Says Wednesday Anything Goes Challenge.

Card 5-  I started with the bright yellow card base.  I stamped
the background using the solid circle stamp using three different colors of yellow inks onto a white card stock panel.  I die cut the circle frame out.  I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set.  I added some acetate to the back along with some foam tape.  I filled the shaker with all of the summer gold sequins included in the kit as well as added some from my stash that coordinated for an extra full shaker.  I added piece of pattern paper from the kit to back the shaker mimicing a blue sky.  I stamped the sunshine and added the stamped yellow center.  I stamped and cut out the shades.  I added glossy accents to the shades for added effect. I again finished this card with some clear sequins from my stash. I am playing along with Stamp Ink Paper Shaker Challenge.

My thoughts on my first Simon Says Stamp Card Kit.
I probably would not have chosen this stamp set for myself just strolling through the store.  However, I felt like I needed something to get me out of my "normal"  images for cards.  This kit did make me think.  I found it challenging and fun!  I like that all of the kit components do work together.  I am not fond of stickers.  I did try to incorporate a few of those.  I would prefer to see ephemera included in the kit instead of stickers.  I have plenty of supplies left to create more cards.  I may do that for another post.  I feel like I need to at least make 10 cards to justify purchasing the kit.

Which card is your favorite and why?

As always thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Love You're one in a Melon and You Bring the Sunshine cards! I rarely make enough of cards from a kit to justify the cost but have purchased 4 in the last two years. One Hero Arts MMH kit was loads of birds/nests (my husband's hobby) and the other was a Safari theme (we've been to Africa several times). I prefer to stamp my own background too but lately have been using more pattern paper to lower my hoarded inventory.
