Raspberry Suite and FLAT embossing!!!

This card if for two challenges!!! First, it is for SCS Ways to Use it Challenge(WT224)!!! The challenge is to go Bold and Bright without staying within in particular color grouping. Well, if you have seen any of my cards so far this week they have been very bold and vibrant. You may even needed shades to view!!! LOL!!!

So, for this challenge I decided to go with the bold and bright colors of Dawn's Raspberry Suite Challenge #10. We were to use berry sorbet, melon berry, dark chocolate, and vintage cream. For this card I card I chose to use Papertrey's Mixed Messages and Bird Watching Additions sets. I just love the assorted patterned birds that come in this set. I also used some PTI bitty dot dp. I stamped the sentiment directly onto the ribbon. I love these little sentiments. I have the Megas on my wish list!!! I added a berry sorbet button with some hemp. I topped it with the little gold pearl domes that I used for the birdies eyes in a smaller size. I love my cute little birdie card!!! LOL!!

FLAT EMBOSSING:
After I had my card almost complete, I decided that I wanted to use some subtle texture. Something to play off of the bitty dots and the bird patterns. I looked through my cuttlebug embossing folder stash and came up with another folder that I had not used in awhile. I have several embossing folders that I just had to have, but they never get much use. It occured to me the reason I do not use these folders near enough is that the embossed pattern is alittle too intense for me. To each his own, right?

I did a card a few months ago where I used my crimper. I dislike the harsh crimping look, so after I crimped, I took the piece of cardstock and put them between my Big Shot clear plates and flattened it. I LOVED the flat subtled texture look. So, when I was making the texture decision with this card, I decided to flatten the cuttlebug embossed cardstock the same way. I LOVE it!!! The texture is subtle and it is sort of flat, but the shape is still there. How cool!!! It is like I have NEW stuff. I thought I would share with you. Here are a few I ran through cuttlebug embossing folders for you to see, then flattened. The picture on the right side is the flat embossed look. It is alittle harder to see with a photo, but it is drastically different to me in IRL. You can click on the photos for a larger picture.

Please let me know if this has been helpful to you in any way. Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

  1. OMGosh!! This is just so fantastic, Betty!! There have been so many times I though...I would like that if it was not so harsh...this is perfect...it really softens the embossing right up! How fun!!

Your card is very pretty, BTW!! Love those birds!!

  3. Well, you are so clever! Most of the time I like the CB embossing just fine, but you're right....sometimes it could be toned down a bit, and what a great idea. I LOVE this layout, too! Yummy all around!

  7. Now, that's kinda' cool! I will have to try this! I makes me think of how much more detail a card has when you use a textured cardstock like Bazzill. Thanks for sharing your idea and sweet card!
